I’ve been knitting sweaters a long time. And, I love knitting. However, once in a while everyone likes to try something new. I learned how to sew before I learned how to knit. In grade school I took sewing classes at a fabric store with my friend Tina. I loved the class and hated for it to be over. Tina’s outfit was a tasteful navy polyester with a red print on it. I selected a bright yellow and pink seersucker print for the top and a solid pink for the pant. And, it being the 70’s and all I added a flare insert into the pants. I still have the outfit that I made for the class. I think I wore it once on the first day of school. My memory is a little foggy but I don’t think that it was well received. Thankfully my tastes have evolved.
So, I’ve always loved sewing however, admittedly it fell by the wayside. The idea to start sewing again stemmed from the fact that I love wearing cotton t shirts but I’m very picky. The tees have to be a certain brand, Caslon. They are super soft and I love the ballet neckline. Well, I’ve only found them at Nordstrom’s during certain times of the year. So, I decided to make my own! I found a great cotton jersey knit fabric and I dug deep into my pattern making skills. I’ve not used those skills since college but after a few tests, I settled on a pattern that I liked. Then, I need to add a little interest. Well, one thing led to another and incorporating the zig zag stitch and contrast top stitching and a new t shirt was born! Then of course I needed the tees and tunics etc. to work back to the sweaters. Again, one thing led to another and Spring 2015 arrived. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.
