We have patterns!

June 28th, 2010

Slowly, but surely I’m adding hand-knit patterns for my sweater designs to our repertoire.  It’s a slow process as everything needs to be checked and rechecked a dozen times.  Also, I typically write a pattern for a machine knitter rather than a hand-knitter.  As it happens I hand knit as well as machine knit but your mind has to think in a different way. That being said, I hope the patterns are well received and offer much knitting enjoyment.  More patterns to come…….

Make It Better

November 25th, 2009

excerptI was contacted by Liz Logan from Make It Better magazine, a new magazine for North Shore residents for an article.  The article was promoting local artisans participating in the One Of a Kind Show at the Merchandise Mart in December. The above article is a portion of what was featured. To see the entire article go to makeitbetter.net

Time to bring out the mohair

November 5th, 2009

The sun finally came out and I was able to take a picture of my new and improved armhole on the mohair sweater.  I typically use a drop shoulder and have been slowly switching to a set-in sleeve.  The set-in sleeve reduces extra bulk under the arm and on a chunky wool or mohair this is really helpful.

This sweater worked really well for many figure types and it doubles as a coat.

Show Season

October 19th, 2009

I just finished my first retail show of the season.  It was held at the Lycee Francais School in Chicago for their French Fall Market.   Everyone was very nice and the children could not have been more helpful. Because I typically do wholesale or trade shows, I love doing a retail show as I can see how my sweaters look firsthand on a customer.  From there I can tell what works, what doesn’t and why.  The top selling sweaters were styles 38 and 39.  Both are from my Fall 2009 collection and made out of an organic cotton and wool.

Another very popular style, at least by interest, was a mohair coat that I did a few years ago.  Almost everyone came in and touched the sweater although no one bought it.  My mohair styles usually run big and this style was no exception.  Because it is a more tailored style I could see that the way I had fashioned the armhole was the problem.  I plan on bringing this style back with a “new and improved” armhole.  And more size smalls!
